PRESS RELEASE: Dr. Stephanie Kelton On Creating a National Jobs Guarantee, “We Need a New New Deal.”

Founding Fellow of The Sanders Institute, leading economist and Professor at StonyBrook University Dr. Stephanie Kelton sat down with Sanders Institute co-founder and Fellow Dr. Jane O’Meara Sanders to discuss the results of an in-depth report released by the Levy Institute of Economics on what the creation of a National Jobs Guarantee program would mean for the US Economy. Dr. Kelton co-authored the report with L. Randall Wray, Flavia Dantas, Scott Fullwiler, and Pavlina R. Tcherneva.

The Right to Employment was the first item in FDR’s “Second Bill of Rights” and was a fundamental piece of his agenda as president and is growing in popularity among. Today, our seemingly low unemployment rate does not include the ~17 million people in the United States who are underemployed or discouraged from looking for work. A National Jobs Guarantee would function as a sustainable solution and create a path to full employment for everyone who was willing and able to work. A National Jobs Guarantee is
